Gustave Max Stevens was a pupil of Jean-François Portaels at the School of Fine Arts in Brussels from 1886 and remained there for four years in painting class. He then studied under the direction of Fernand Cormon at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

He co-founded in Brussels in 1893 and chaired “Le Sillon”.
He exhibited at the first Salon of Idealist Art in 1896 and at the Salon of French Artists.
At the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900, he won a bronze medal.

He is considered a great painter of Belgian Art Nouveau. 66895843
