Philipp Cluver, German humanist, cartographer and geographer, traveled extensively to perfect his training as a geographer and also resided for a long time in Italy.

This work is considered the first attempt at a scientific study of historical geography, a discipline which - according to the author - must be based on related disciplines, namely literature and epigraphy.

The most correct work, was edited by the German historian, geographer and theologian Johan Buno or Bunone who integrated and corrected the original text of Cluver" -
