L 'Ássiette au Beurre' (literally 'The Butter Dish') was an illustrated French satirical weekly with a tendency towards socialism anarchism. Many well-known writers and illustrators such as Kupka, van Dongen, Steinlen and Caran d'Ache from those circles contributed to the magazine. The magazine was published between 1901 and 1912 with revival as a monthly magazine between 1921 and 1925 and in 1936.
It is a valuable icon of the 'Belle Époque' and distinguished itself from other French satirical magazines both in style and output. Each issue contained a minimum of 16 full-page illustrations, and special issues sometimes contained as many as 48 illustrations. 67481965
