Contemporary half-shagreen binding, spine with slightly rubbed raised bands, and a few dislocated leaves, volume 1. Good condition, note scattered foxing on 2 volumes
"The first comprehensive work on Oceania, a little dense, but solid and still useful. RIENZY, 1789 -1843, great traveler, lost in a shipwreck - returning to France in 1829 - the unique collection of documents he reported. He has a personal knowledge of Malaysia. For Polynesia, he used, in addition to the great voyages which he knows well, the notes and memories of Dumont d'Urville, with whom he was in contact" (O.Reilly and Reitman 3773).
