Superb and beautiful portrait of a woman with a Symbolist dimension. The important chiaroscuro of this painting echoes the orientalist and mysterious women painted by Trouillebert in the years 1870-80. The catalogs of Parisian Salons mention similar subjects (in 1874 La servante du Harem, in 1881 La Charmeuse, in 1883 Ariane and in 1884 La captive). Note that the painting from the Salon of 1874 is now in the Museum of Fine Arts in Nice and has the same face as the woman in our painting (which allows a temporal comparison). 67553085
