I have here for sale a RARE book entitled Adventures in the Great Forest of Equatorial Africa and the Country of the Dwarfs by Du Chaillu, Paul B. Published by Harper & Brothers, New York, 1903. It's a fourth edition abridged, with a Map and numerous full page, and in-text illustrations, (originally published in 1871)
A fascinating edition abridged of this important work by the anthropologist and traveller Paul Belloni du Chaillu. He became famous in the 1860s as the first modern outsider to confirm the existence of gorillas - introducing a scientific appraisal of the species into Western culture through this very book, the frontispiece of which contains the first ever depiction of the Gorilla by a Westerner.
Bound in green linen boards. Gilt illustration of a gorilla to the front board. Gilt title lettering to the spine. Bottom frontboard shows small amount of dampstaining, Internally very good with a tight binding although pages are slightly age toned. Full page sketch Map to illustrate P.B.
