Engraver: Cornelis Bloemaert (Utrecht 1603 - Rome 1684) - Second son[1] from the second marriage of Abraham Bloemaert[2], he was a pupil of his father and of Gerard van Honthorst[1]. He then learned the art of engraving from Crispijn van de Passe [3] [4]: it is in fact for his engravings that he is known [3]. He worked in Paris from 1630 to 1633 [1], where he collaborated with Theodor Matham in the creation of the Tableaux du Temple des Muses of the collector Favareaux. In 1633 he moved to Rome called there, on the recommendation of Sandrart, by the Marquis Giustiniani [2]. Here he made engravings under the supervision of Pietro da Cortona and especially for the Barberini family. He made over 400 prints from paintings by Domenichino, Pietro da Cortona, Ciro Ferri, Giacinto Gimignani and from drawings by Joachim von Sandrart which were part of the collection of the Marquis Giustiniani [4]. Reinier van Persijn and Theodor Matham also collaborated on this last work. He remained in Rome until 1692, also working temporarily in Florence.
He mainly represented genre, religious and architectural subjects and created portraits.
