Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (Seville 1618-1682) (After)
Oil on canvas.
Measurements: 83 x 63 cm.
The Ecce homo constitutes a very well composed and embodied testimony of this famous episode of the Passion of Christ, so commonly represented throughout Europe from the fifteenth century to the mid-nineteenth century.
The figure of Christ appears very closely and on a black background, from the front, with his head slightly tilted to the right. Without a doubt, the expression on his face is the main point of attention for anyone who contemplates the painting. This portrait shows great dexterity in the representation of the human figure, especially due to the delicacy of the contours and the cane with which the shadows that appear on the right side of the waist are shaped. Christ's eyes are painted large and expressive, directed directly at his Redeemer Father.
Spanish Private Collection, Great Painters.
