Catawiki’s goal is to make special objects universally available. Our weekly auctions feature thousands of unusual, rare, and exceptional objects you won’t find in just any store. Jan Muijs (1925-2015) was a Brabant painter with a special fascination for traditional Dutch still lifes. Light and composition are the main motifs in his works. They are compositions that are built up as a coherent whole, in which warm and cool colors are used next to and mixed up. He mainly paints utensils and fruit. His paintings require a very labour-intensive way of working due to their great degree of refinement in capturing the objects. The still lifes are set up in oil paint in which the incidence of light brings out the accents on the objects.
