Toussaint Rémond de Saint-Mard, born in 1682 in Paris where he died on October 28 or 29, 1757, was a French writer who wrote literary essays on aesthetics and opera. Criticizing Fontenelle whom he accused of corrupting taste, he nevertheless wrote in his style, so much so that Abbé Raynal called him the "monkey of Fontenelle". Like him epicurean and irreligious, his modernism attracted the attacks of Desfontaines de Fréron, but the support of Abbé Gédoyn.
We owe him mainly literary dissertations, where the spirit dominates more than judgment. He acquired a certain reputation thanks to his Dialogues of the gods. He also made verses in the Wisdom Poem. He worked around 1728 at the French Library under Granet.

Contemporary bindings in full marbled sheepskin, ribbed spine adorned with black leather pieces and decoration with small gilt irons.
Good set, remains decorative despite the flaws, leather a little faded, gilding a little faded, 2 caps a little leveled, several damaged corners. In Volume 2 starting from a small slit at the head of the first bit. Fresh and clean interiors.
