The city of Paris in burlesque verse.
Paris, at Estienne Loyson, 1658.
1 small octavo volume (17 x 11 cm), soft vellum (contemporary binding), smooth spine titled and dated in ink, ex-libris by "P. Fromentin", [6]-114-[ 2] pages (complete). Slight stains and scuffing on the covers, lower corner of the title page torn with slight lack, work evenly browned, foxing. Good condition all the same.
Edition illustrated with an engraved frontispiece.
The identity of the author, this so-called "Berthod", remains unknown to this day: "We thought we had to conclude from this complete absence of information on this poet, that his name, written in different ways (Berthod, Berthaud, Berthauld and Bertaut), was only a pseudonym" (LACROIX Paul, Paris ridiculous and burlesque in the seventeenth century, 1858, pp.XVIII-XIX).
The work includes a burlesque poem on the city of Paris in the 17th century.
