Good edition in 6 volumes small in-12, here bound in 3 volumes of "The Century of Louis XIV" followed by "The Century of Louis XV" by Voltaire. With engraved portrait of the author on the frontispiece.

Pretty romantic binding in glazed tawny calfskin, smooth spine adorned with a decoration of small gilt irons in the center of Gothic motifs.

CONDITION: Leather a little faded, some minor traces. Interiors in good condition, slight yellowing & some rare foxing. In volume 1 a wetting in the top margin of the first 200 pp (approx.) Good general condition.

Le Siècle de Louis XIV is a work by Voltaire published in 1751. In this work, Voltaire does not claim to deliver a historical reflection, but a philosophical one, trying "to paint for posterity, not the actions of a single man, Louis XIV, but the minds of men in the most enlightened age that ever was. »
