P.J.A.Wagemans (1879-1955) – Special stable scene
A stable scene with horses and a few people by the Dutch artist Pieter Wagemans. Possibly a landlady who has a conversation with (drunken?) customers in the stable…
Pieter Johannes Alexander Wagemans (The Hague, 25 August 1879 - The Hague, 30 August 1955) was a Dutch painter. He painted various subjects. Often cityscapes (Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Haarlem and Delft), harbors and still lifes. But also (farmers) landscapes and here the interior of a stable is his subject. Such works are quite rare.
His studio was located in The Hague, the city where he was born and lived. There he painted, for example, the Gevangenpoort several times.
His work is generally of a high quality and Wagemans is also referred to in professional terms as a "colourist in the traditional realistic style".
The canvas (40x60cm) is in the original, classic, gold-coloured picture frame.
