ONE OF THE FIRST TREATIES ON THE "COMMON LANGUAGE" OF THE 14TH CENTURY
Quotes from Aldo Manuzio, Andrea Navagero and Pietro Bembo.
After a brief historical excursus, the rudiments of grammar and - in the last book - of metrics are exposed: the rhymes, the forms of the poems, the types of verse. In particular, the sonnet, canzone, distesa, madrigal, ballata, sestina, trio, ottava rima and blank verse are described and illustrated with examples.
Edited by Lodovico Dolce, who intends to treat the grammar of the vernacular as the ancient grammarians treated the Latin one.
