Splendid copy of this rather rare study by the historian Louis Boivin-Champe who was also public prosecutor in Poitiers and Caen.

Very neat printed on Dutch laid paper, most certainly printed in small numbers.
Luxury binding in cherry red half-morocco, spine with 5 bands, very beautiful decoration with special interlacing irons, double fillet on the covers, gilt head, untrimmed.

Copy enriched with a sympathetic autograph signed by the author: "to my dear friend, Mr. G. Yvert (?), adviser to the Court of Appeal. Testimony of the most tender and the most lively affection".

Historical monograph from the time of Richard I, known as the Lionheart, was king of England, devoted to William de Longchamps († 1197), born of a humble Norman family, he owed his advancement to royal favour. He ruled England while Richard was on the Third Crusade, but he saw his authority challenged by Richard's brother, Jean Sans Terre, who eventually managed to exclude Longchamp from power and even from England.

Copy in good condition. Solid hinge, fresh interior, a few rare leaves a bit browned, practically without foxing.
