Catawiki’s goal is to make special objects universally available. Our weekly auctions feature thousands of unusual, rare, and exceptional objects you won’t find in just any store. Maurizio Toffoletti was born in Lecce, southern Italy. As far as he can remember, he has always wanted to be a sculptor, marble fascinates him. Graduated from the State School of Art and the Academy of Fine Arts in Lecce

where he received a solid classical training, his initial influences were those of Antiquity – Egyptian in particular, and the classics (Michelangelo, etc.), which guided his first creations. He quickly opened up to other influences: those of the great modern masters such as Brancusi, Moore, Picasso, Dalì, Mirò, Max Bill, Marino Marini, Calder, Arp...

His move to Paris in 1989 marked a turning point in his career and in his artistic development. Maurizio Toffoletti establishes marble as a material for contemporary creation. He favors monumental sculptures. His research leads him towards transparency, the play of light on and in marble, which his art renders diaphanous.

In 1993, he was invited to participate in the first European Sculpture Symposium in Biarritz, then in the Paris and Osaka Biennale in 1996. His installations of monumental sculptures were honored on Place Vendôme in 2005, then in Italy. Many international exhibitions follow.

His works are part of private and public collections all over the world. All these exhibitions definitively place the work of Maurizio Toffoletti in the international artistic landscape.
