The Holophane company based in Andelys, a small town located 90 km northwest of Paris, was created in 1921 and was initially focused on the manufacture of prismatic lenses. Subsequently, the company diversified its production and in the 1930s and 1940s inaugurated the production of decorative glass objects. Some objects from this production are remarkable for their quality and are signed by the specific label entitled "Verlys" (contraction of "Verrerie des Andelys"). They were presented at major exhibitions alongside the Lalique, Etling and Sabino glassworks. For the manufacture of the "Verlys", Holophane called on the great glassmakers of the time, such as Pierre d'Avesn or Charles Mansuy.
