The Virgin holding an apple while holding the Infant Jesus on her lap. To his left, San Giovannino Battista, with the classic attributes of the crucifix and the lamb. The group is inserted in a classical architecture, in the background a drapery and further on a glimpse of the landscape. According to the critique from a drawing by Annibale Carracci translated into an engraving by Girolamo Imperiale.
AUTHOR
Annibale Carracci (1560-1609), painter and engraver, one of the greatest masters of late Mannerism. He trained in his native Bologna, brother of Agostino and cousin of Ludovico. He moved to Rome, where he received commissions from the Farnese and the Roman Curia. Famous for the style between Classicism and Baroque.
Girolamo Imperiale (?-1639), little is known about this author. Born into a Genoese patrician family, he studied in Parma, where he came into contact with the work of Parmigianino and Correggio. He devoted himself to painting and engraving. He returns to Genoa, then moves to Naples where he dies.
