The V188 001 and V188 002 were the only diesel-electric double locomotives in service with the DB. The nickname of the V188 was 'Walli'. The locomotive was specially built for use during the Second World War. The locomotive was used for the transport of heavy war materials. After the war, the locomotives were thoroughly revised. The engines were replaced by modern ones. The braking equipment, heating and other installations were also adapted to current requirements. They were used in heavy goods transport. They have never really been popular. They were permanently withdrawn from service in 1971.
