Life size circa 1840 Wooden Church Statue Holy St Anna Mother of Mary
From Church Belgium which is Closed
Saint (Mother) Anna or Sint Anna is, according to Christian tradition, the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
In the second century of our era, the Birth of Mary is written, a Greek text, which is the basis of the tradition. The text later became known as the Proto-Gospel of James.
Anna and her husband Joachim were (according to tradition) married, wealthy, but childless. They lived completely according to the Law of God. Yet Joachim's sacrifice in the temple is refused because he has no children. Joachim flees into the desert with his herd. Thinking he is dead, Anna complains to God and asks for a child. Her prayer is answered. At the same time, an angel tells Joachim that his wife is pregnant. He returns with his herd and meets his wife at the Golden Gate in Jerusalem and kisses her. Anna gives birth to a girl: Maria. The parents consecrate the child to God and take Mary to the temple when she is three years old. There she is fed by angels.
