Double portrait of children with a small lamb. Biedermeier.
Original canvas and frame of the painting.
About 1820-30.
Technique: oil on canvas

Size:55cm x 47cm

The painting portrays two little brothers or cousins, the older one embraces his brother (or younger sister). The children place the flowers and herbs on the lamb. Stunning is the small still life with the basket in the foreground, daisies and an apple, executed with a clear realism of the Biedermeier period.
There is likely to be a delicate moralizing allusion, typical for those times, to Christian symbols: the apple - symbol of sin, and the little lamb as a symbol of the lamb = Christ the savior.
Painted in very good condition, with few traces of the past.
Signed on the right "Rouch P", letter P could mean PINXIT (painting)
