This type of furniture was produced from the middle of the 19th century, therefore mainly in the style of historicism, known in this form in Germany as "Gründerzeit".

This type of construction originated from apartments in large cities and was probably developed in Berlin. It enjoyed great popularity throughout Germany until the beginning of the 20th century.
