The book is illustrated with 16 numbered folding plates (including 12 of mushrooms) and 14 folding tables. Also 1 allegorical frontispiece engraved by Tilliard after Lavallée Poussin.
The Royal Commission of Medicine, created under Turgot and which in 1775 became the Royal Society of Medicine under Necker, is considered the first state agency in the field of health. He had been assigned the main tasks of investigating epidemics occurring in the kingdom, identifying and studying them, and above all proposing a plan of action to combat them. Thanks to a large network of correspondents, it carries out meteorological and nosological surveys, writes memoirs delivering key elements on epidemics from “medical topographies”. There is one of the first mentions of meteorology as a science. We find reports signed by the great pens of medicine of the time, such as the anatomist Vicq D'Azyr or the agronomist Tessier.

Bound copy, period full marbled calfskin. Back with raised bands decorated with a rich decoration with gilded irons. Pieces of red morocco indicating the title and the year. Red slices.
Condition: Snag on the top cover, rubbing, pierced corners. Solid volume. Very fresh interior, rare pitting and small waterstaining on the margin of the frontispiece, beautiful plates. Good copy.
