This interesting perfumery manual gives many recipes for hair powders, soaps, essences and oils scented with flowers, ointments, liqueurs, mouthwashes, scented waters, maréchale powders, scented skins and gloves, etc. It ends with a Treatise on Tobacco (pp. 145-170) concerning the preparation of scented powdered tobacco.
The frontispiece, unsigned, represents a couple and their little dog in a perfumer's shop.
Simon Barbe was one of the most famous perfumers of his century. He had a shop in Paris, rue des Gravilliers, under the sign of the Toison d'Or.
