Striking 19th century hard paste oval porcelain plaque of a self-portrait of Élisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun (1755-1842) in a gilt wood frame. Printed Firenze (Florence) mark on the reverse plus paper label for C & A Schwicker, makers of the Florentine gilt wood scrollwork frame. Plaque measures 17 x 12.5cm, frame ca 35 x 26cm. Élisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun was a famous French portrait painter, especially of women, in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. She created some 660 portraits and 200 landscapes. In addition to many works in private collections, her paintings are owned by major museums, such as the Louvre Paris, Uffizi Florence, Hermitage Museum Saint Petersburg, National Gallery in London, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and many other collections in continental Europe and the USA. 67364905
