Charles Marguetel de Saint-Denis, lord of Saint-Évremond (1614-1703), libertine writer who had the particularity of having been well known during his lifetime but published mainly after his death.

He was a moralist and a libertine critic, his rigor and his critical independence announced the philosophers of the Enlightenment, and he was perhaps the first author who made criticism a profession. He paid little attention to his writings, which circulated mainly in manuscript during his lifetime.
