Spectacular wooden head of Madonna from an estimated period at least XVII.
The all-round sculpture in fruit wood represents the face of the Madonna with her dress. His head is tilted to the left, his mouth is half open and his eyes are happy. The hair that extends into the veil is also sculpted. You can see the neck up, everything is surrounded by the Madonna's dress with its drapes. Full Renaissance.
Excellent execution of great appreciation and impact.
Traces of scattered polychromy, in the veil, in the flesh and in the hair and of a preparation based on plaster and isinglass. Some inactive woodworm holes. Very ancient head, therefore in good condition given its age. The wood is very solid. It is not clear whether it was an element on its own or part of a larger sculpture. There are two holes at the base but underneath it doesn't look like it was any bigger even for the proportions.
