Icon Virgin of Kazan Russia:

The first depiction of this icon was found in the city of Kazan on July 8, 1579 after the Virgin appeared three times to a young girl telling her where the underground Christians had hidden the icon before the conquest of the city of the part of the Tatars.

The icon was worn on the battlefield during the war of liberation of Moscow from the Poles in 1612 and is attributed victory. In addition, she is considered the protector of the Romanov dynasty.

From an iconographic point of view, the Kazan icon of the Mother of God is a variant of the Odigitria type and its main feature is the standing position of the Child Jesus. The Virgin is painted mid-bust, a feature that began to become popular in the 16th century.
