Postcard with original text and signature of Stijn Streuvels with accompanying envelope with original handwriting from January 1960.
Streuvels (1871-1969) was a Flemish writer who is regarded as one of the most important innovators in Dutch literature. In a highly creative and original language, Streuvels wrote naturalistic short stories that bear a relationship to the work of Émile Zola and the great Russian authors of his time (notably Tolstoy).
Literature connoisseurs agree that the visionary power of his work, the unrelenting acknowledgment of reality without moralizing commentary, the creative linguistic power of his prose and the universality of the themes treated have lifted his work above particularism and regional literature.
