Biography
Passionate about landscape painting from a very young age, thanks to a scholarship he was able to attend the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna under the guidance of Antonio Puccinelli.
Illustrated the first edition of Myricae.
At the age of 20 he moved to Naples, enrolling in the Academy and making friends with Michetti, Dalbono, Moretti and, later, with Ragione and Migliaro.
In 1881 he took part in the Neapolitan Promotrice with Verde, where he was also present in 1888 with Verso sera, in '99 with Di Mattina, in 1904 with Primavera Imminent and Mattina, in 1915-'16 with Tempo bigio and Da Mergellina and in '22 with Snowfall, On the terrace and Meta di Sorrento.
In 1885 he was present at the Salon des Artistes in Paris and, two years later, at the National Exhibition in Venice with Spiaggia di Portici, Per l'orto and In campagna.
He sent some works to Milan in 1884, '89 and '90 and in 1906, when he exhibited two sculptures.
He became an honorary professor of the Naples Academy in 1902.
In the last thirty years of activity he preferred to organize personal exhibitions in Neapolitan galleries interested in nineteenth-century painting.
Attilio Pratella died in Naples in 1949
