Lovely hand-painted miniature porcelain portrait of Beatrice Cenci after Guido Reni. Cenci was an Italian noblewoman who murdered her father, Count Francesco Cenci after he abused her in the late 1500's. Her lurid trial (in Rome) was a cause célèbre at which she was found guilty and beheaded in 1599. Guido Reni, an Italian Baroque period painter immortalized her in a famous portrait, which highlights her delicate features. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatrice_Cenci for more information. Frame measures 19.7 x 18.6mm.

The plaque is mounted in a sturdy wood & plaster frame and is unsigned, but it is believed to be 19thC and of German origin.
