The language is written in the Tibetan alphabet, derived from the Devanagari.
Each consonant contains a so-called inherent vowel, which can be changed using different vowel signs. Devanagari is a close descendant of the Brahmi script, Chr. can be traced. The Brahmi script, on the other hand, is derived from Eastern Aramaic script. Many other Indic languages use other scripts of the Brahmi family.
The name Devanagari comes from the Sanskrit words Deva (= "God") and Nagari (= "City"). Together, they literally mean "City of the Gods". This refers to the legend that the script was used in a similar city. The philosophy behind it is that when one meditates on a sound of the Devanagari alphabet, the written form spontaneously comes to mind.
