Rare miniature figure of Alexander Nevsky (1221 - 1263), a key figure of medieval Russia.

He held the title of Prince of Novgorod, Grand Duke of Kiev and Grand Duke of Vladimir during some of the most difficult times in the history of Russia at the time.

Nevsky achieved legendary status through his military victories over German and Swedish invaders. He maintained a separate state and orthodoxy, agreeing to pay tribute to the mighty Golden Horde. In 1547 he was sanctified in the Russian Orthodox Church.
