Catawiki’s goal is to make special objects universally available. Our weekly auctions feature thousands of unusual, rare, and exceptional objects you won’t find in just any store. Sef was born in Venlo, the Netherlands, in 1964 and studied at the Koninklijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Den Bosch. In 1992 he completed his training as a painter at the Postacademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Arnhem.

From 1993 to 1997 he painted passengers at ten different train stations in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. This project entitled "Je suis à la gare" resulted in several exhibitions at home and abroad.

From 1997 to 2000, Sef painted portraits, street scenes and landscapes during various trips to Egypt, Greece and India, leading to new figurations and abstract works. Two of these works have been awarded the Euregio Art Prize - Rijn Maas Noord (2001) in the Netherlands and Germany. His work was considered original, innovative and authentic.

From 2010 to 2016 he painted abstract portraits on music. He captured the power of different singers on canvas, using the movement of his body with oil paint in black and white or bright colours.

In recent works, figurations such as self-portraits and human figures are painted with a special oil recipe that combines different resins and provides enormous colour strength. This technique ensures brighter colours, improved durability and more clarity and transparency.

The work is framed behind glass. The work comes from a private collection.

The artist lives and works in New York. 67621555
