Etching, with period colouring. Graphic reproduction of a Greek vase with red figures on a black field, a seated woman in profile within an almost square element, delimited by a frame with geometric motifs. Plate from the work "Collection of Etruscan, Greek and Roman Antiquities from the Cabinet of the Hon. ble Wm Hamilton, His Britannick Maiesty's Envoy Extraordinary at the Court of Naples.", one of the most famous and sumptuous works of the 18th century. Curated by P.F. Hughes d'Hancarville, dedicated to the collection of Sir William Douglas Hamilton, British archaeologist and diplomat. The fund was later acquired by the British Museum.

AUTHOR

M.P. Hughes d'Hancarville (1719–1805), French writer, art historian and adventurer. Among the key figures behind the affirmation of Neoclassicism. A friend of the diplomat and collector Sir Hamilton, he helped him acquire the Porcinari family collection.

CONDITION REPORT

41x34.5cm sheet with wide margins, 28x20cm stroke, medium weight laid paper. Overall conservation is excellent considering the age of the object, slight yellowing visible against the light at the edges.
