598 portraits and descriptions. Without pagination, at the end of the volumes are listed the portraits and descriptions that should be there. Thus, there are 591 names announced (none of the announced portraits and descriptions are missing) and there are still 7 portraits and descriptions here and there which appear and which are not mentioned at the end. This lack of 2 portraits should be a production error because apparently in some copies there are only 598 portraits and descriptions. At the end of the last volume there is an error concerning I believe two descriptions which do not follow the portraits as usual but the portraits follow each other then there are the two descriptions.
