Nineveh and its remains studies the ancient Asyrian city of Nineveh, wich was the largest city in the world for fifty years before 612 BC. It was one of the oldest and greatest cities in antiquary, the area being settled as early as 6000 BC.
In this work Layard explores the ancient city and discusses his monumental excavations, a fascinating insight into Victorian exploration and archaeology.
Working in Nineveh he uncovered a large proportion of the Assyrian palace reliefs known, and the library of Ashurbanipal.
