Catawiki’s goal is to make special objects universally available. Our weekly auctions feature thousands of unusual, rare, and exceptional objects you won’t find in just any store. The picture dates from a period when Adolphe Lechtenberg deviated from the square form of the picture and worked with irregular shapes. The subject here is the cross, which is brought to life through the application and intensity of the color matter, in contrast to Christian mythology, where it has a rigid, lifeless form. Here the cross becomes a symbol of life.
