Important Ancient painting
large size oil painting on canvas

Altarpiece

Early 18th century Lombard 1700 / 1750

" Immaculate Conception "

Measurement: 120 X 100 cm

Coming from the Sacristy of Chiesa Lombarda - Previously located as an altarpiece

Large painting, very rare, of considerable size from a church, popular style altarpiece in good condition. Here the approach is markedly devotional: Already celebrated since the 11th century, the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary fits into the context of Advent and Christmas, joining the messianic expectation and the glorious return of Christ with the memory of the Mother. In this sense, this liturgical period must be considered a particularly suitable time for the worship of the Mother of the Lord. Mary is completely holy, immune from every stain of sin, almost molded by the Holy Spirit and made into a new creature. Already prophetically foreshadowed in the promise made to her first parents of victory over the serpent, Mary is the Virgin who will conceive and give birth to a son whose name will be Emmanuel. The dogma of the Immaculate Conception was proclaimed by Pius IX in 1854 with the bull Ineffabilis Deus. In Catholic devotion the Immaculate is connected with the apparitions of Lourdes (1858) and iconographically with the previous apparitions of Rue du Bac in Paris (1830).

With certificate of authenticity

The conservation conditions are good, the painting has been relined and the drops have been fixed to the canvas. The painting is dark and some of the color has been lost over time. However, the charm of the work has remained unchanged. Ideal for furniture and for insiders

Given the importance of the work, it will only be sent via insured shipping. The present documentation will be attached. 67610131
