Catawiki’s goal is to make special objects universally available. Our weekly auctions feature thousands of unusual, rare, and exceptional objects you won’t find in just any store. Wonderful red morocco binding with gilt geometric tooling, with internal perforation and golden edges. Basilewitch bookplate.
187 numbered pages, printed on blue paper.
False place and date of printing, actually it is Paris, 1790.
The book includes two works, Tansillo’s Il Vendemmiatore and Niccolò Franco’s Priapea (definitely the most obscene work in 18th-century Italian literature).
See Parenti, 167. “The volume was printed in Paris by Molini in 1790” - Gamba, 1674: “The printing of this licentious composition, written in the autumn of 1534, and printed without the approval of the author, had unpleasant consequences for him, but at the same time was the basis of his literary reputation” - Diz. Autori Bompiani, III, p. 642: Il vendemmiatore is animated by a carnivalesque taste for “carpe diem”, not unrelated to wildly audacious ideas. It was very successful but was included by the Church in the index of prohibited books in 1559.
The copy is in perfect condition.

* The work is provided with an export permit from the Italian Superintendence of Book Assets. 67222295
