The locomotive series 27 is a type of electric locomotive that has been used by the NMBS since 1981, for both passenger and freight trains. These locomotives are technically almost identical to the later series 11, 12 and 21. The biggest difference is that these last 3 series have only 2/3 of the engine power of the series 27. In the 1980s, 60 locomotives of this type were built, namely 2701 through 2760. These are all still in use today. Locomotive 2711 pulled a train of 70 carriages in 1991, breaking the old record from 1989 of 60 carriages pulled by the Dutch loco 1607.
