Rare copy of this famous biography of ancient Greece -

The Cyropaedia is a large biography - 300 pages - "partly fictitious" of the Persian ruler Cyrus II, by Xenophon.

The Latinized title Cyropaedia derives from the Ancient Greek Kúrou paideía meaning "The Education of Cyrus".

Aulu-Gelle reports in his Attic Nights that the first two Books of Plato's Republic were first published alone and that Xenophon opposed the Cyropedia to them.

The Cyropaedia was imitated in the Middle Ages as a model of the genre mirrors of princes. It influenced Machiavelli, who however rejected the medieval model. The Cyropaedia, like The Prince, was not, however, necessarily intended to describe the ideal ruler.
In essence, the Cyropaedia describes "the education of the ideal ruler, trained to rule his admiring and willing subjects like a benevolent despot" -
