Catawiki’s goal is to make special objects universally available. Our weekly auctions feature thousands of unusual, rare, and exceptional objects you won’t find in just any store. Up for auction is this, extremely rare first edition, first impression (1st/1st) of Ian Fleming's 4th James Bond novel, Diamonds are Forever, published in 1956 by Jonathan Cape.

The first impression print run of the iconic book was a mere 14,700 copies.

Not only does the tiny print run make Diamonds Are Forever a numerically scarce book, but with so few printed to begin with, it is now becoming incredibly hard to find examples in this super condition.

All told I would class the condition of the book as very good to near fine. Please see the very thorough pictures to judge this for yourself!

Save for an inscription to front end paper, and the lightest hint of spotting to end-papers only, the internal pages are mark-free, bright, clean, fresh and unblemished, without any spotting/foxing.

Externally boards themselves are in super condition: no bumping, no spine lean, square, sharp, tightly bound and in showing bright silver gilding. The page block is also very clean indeed: creamy white rather than the usually darkened and sun-stained examples that are so often seen.

All in all this is a very rare book, and rarely found in this good a condition.

Bidders will not be disappointed.

This would make an outstanding addition to any Fleming 1st/1st collection.

Note: book only, no jacket. 67429149
