Catawiki’s goal is to make special objects universally available. Our weekly auctions feature thousands of unusual, rare, and exceptional objects you won’t find in just any store. This beautiful NUFA briar-root electric clock in Art Deco style, one of a kind, was produced in Holland between 1947 and 1959 and is in perfect working order including the automatic calendar. Electric 220 V, does not need charging and without striking.

On February 20, 1935, Pieter Johannes Paauwe applied for a patent for a fully automatic calendar table clock. He was granted on March 17, 1937 under patent number 40541 class 83a 78.

Otto Frank, Anne Frank's father, owned a Paauwe watch with an automatic calendar in his Amsterdam studio and was also subjected to an attempted theft.

During the Second World War, Paauwe's Patent, like many other Dutch companies, tried to keep afloat under difficult circumstances. Solutions were devised to overcome the scarcity of materials but unfortunately without success and so the company was forced to close. From 1947 to 1975, Paauwe's patent was taken over by a new company under the name of NUFA (Nederlandsche UurwerkFabrieken) and after 1975 the company name changed again to NEDKLOK.

The watch can be picked up in Den Haag (The Netherlands) or it will be shipped with Track&Trace after being carefully packed. 67403569
