IMPRESSIVE ANTHOLOGY OF THE MOST MEMORABLE WORKS IN THE HISTORY OF FRENCH DRAMA, illustrated and uniformly bound, by Claude-Bernard Petitot, French polygrapher, born in Dijon in 1772, died there in 1825. After writing mediocre plays, he became bureau chief at the Education of the Seine (1800) and retired to Dijon in 1804. Recalled to service in 1809, he became inspector general of studies, then, under the Restoration, secretary general of the commission of education, councilor of the university, director of education .

CONTENTS
These are the first two volumes of a complete series of twenty-five beautifully bound volumes of French dramatic works, including the work of playwrights of the caliber of Molière, Corneille, Racine and Voltaire. Claude-Bernard Petitot, editor of this collection, provides introductory notes on each author. Volumes I and II contain tragedies.

CONDITION REPORT
In-8. Volume I pp.432, volume II pp. 396. Leather binding. Burnished and sprayed cuts. Marbled edges. Gold embossed floral frame on the plates. Gilded friezes and titles on spine, title on red morocco insert, theatrical genre and volume numbering on brown insert. Pages generally clean and bright. Plates engraved in black and white outside the text, the work of numerous illustrators, including Guyot and Leopold Massard.
