Biography of the artist:

Jean-Pierre Malausséna was born in Algeria in 1935 where his French family had been living since 1862.
He arrived in Paris at the age of 10. Deaf from birth, his parents enrolled him in the specialized institute of Dr La Pall where he was taught French, both oral and written.
He learns LSF (French Sign Language) by hanging out with friends who are also deaf.
He made his first clay sculpture which he called "Mother and child" at the age of 10.
Back in North Africa, he entered the National School of Fine Arts in Algiers, staying there for 4 years.
Obtaining a scholarship allowed him to be admitted to the preparatory class at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, sculpture section in 1956. He remained there until 1964;
He took classes in the workshops of Adam, Janniot, Leygue and Yenrenc.
He has won several prizes and twice was logist for the Grand Prix de Rome.
But one of his teachers refused him the 1st Grand Prix de Rome because of his deafness.
Jean-Pierre Malausséna has taken part in numerous exhibitions in France and abroad and won numerous prizes (Galerie Colette Dubois, Paris. Hisaka Gallery, Nu Mazu-Shi, Japan. Taylor Foundation Prize and Susse Prize, Rodin Museum, Paris 2004 Sudo Art Museum, Tokyo, 2006 Ueno Art Forum, Tokyo)
Appointments: Knight of the Order of Academic Palms, gold medalist for Arts-Sciences and Letters, Commander of the Order of the International Arts.
The work of Jean-Pierre Malausséna is distinguished by the opposition of gold and black as well as by the confrontation of different materials. For him, sculpture is a very powerful means of expression and communication.
About his sculptures, he says:
“I use different materials: bronze and resin mainly for the bodies. The supports are mostly original pieces of wood and of various shapes. From this confrontation is born an emotion that I translate by a word: “shadow”, “gossip”, youth”, “expectation” for example.
As for female bodies, it is to Paul Belmondo that I owe the advice to draw at least two hours a day. 67391687
