“I have known the silence of the stars and the sea
and the silence of the city when it subsides
and the silence of a man and a virgin
and the silence with which only music finds language
the silence of the woods
before the spring wind blows
and the silence of the sick when they roll their eyes around the room
and I ask: What is the use of language for profound things?” (E. Lee Masters)
