Ancient painting, oil on canvas, dating back to between the end of the 17th and the first part of the 18th century, depicting the Madonna with Child.
This delicate depiction of the Madonna with Child underlines the human dimension and the sweetness of motherhood: Mary holds and tenderly looks at the child asleep in her arms, wrapped and protected by the mantle and even by a piece of the mother's veil; the colors are those of Marian iconography. The pictorial style and composition of this scene refer to the sphere of Sassoferrato, who distinguished himself expressly for this subject, the image of the young Virgin in prayer or with the Child, depicted with simple white, red and blue colors and delicate plays of nuances on the face and hands, always in a humble and strongly earthy pose.
It is one of the luckiest subjects and replicated with variations by Sassoferrato, whose production by the artist is placed in the years between 1641 and 1685.
Our canvas reflects a sustained aesthetic and by observing the drafts refined passages can be deduced, while the analysis of the crack suggests a dating compatible with the period of activity of the large group of his students and followers, thus resulting attributable to a follower of Sassoferrato.
In good overall condition considering the age of the painting. Note some scattered restoration points and some slight unveiling and cracking of the pictorial surface, however nothing particularly relevant. There are no conservation problems. The original canvas has a relining that does not seem to need any intervention. A fine craquelè is visible in relation to the time. The frame would appear to have been replaced during the last century.
Framed in a beautiful frame from the posthumous era, which has defects, restorations and omissions.
