Ships compass, that could have been a lifeboat/reserve compass incase the main steering compass failed and used in the lifeboat if nessery. Would have been in a wood box or brass dome. This one has spent the last few years as desktop decoration. Made by the Australian company E. Esdaile & Sons, gimbal mounted, liquid filled clear easy to read compass rose,that turns freely. Has the normal small age bubble, and a dent in the bowl, but works perfectly.
