First edition of the third year of this collection of poetic pieces, called "Recueil de l'Académie française", in which we find in particular: the speeches delivered by Abbé Genest and de Valincourt on the day of their reception and the answers of the 'Abbé Boileau and the Chapel. For this year 1699 the subject given for the prize of eloquence was "that there is nothing more terrible for man than to abandon God & no longer fear".

Periodical publication composed of 105 annual issues during the period of 1696-1790, containing a selection of texts and some speeches which had competed for the prizes awarded by the French Academy.

Covered in a contemporary full calfskin binding with ribbed spine adorned with flowered boxes and a title label. Red speckled edges.

Fairly well-preserved copy. Solid binding. Faded leather, rubbing from wear, scuff on the foot cap, corners cut or blunted. Interior enough, a marginal hole on pp 1-47.
Handwritten ex-libris in pen (old) "Aimé Tissot".
